Introduction to 1Password
This article will provide step by step instructions on how to set up your 1Password account as well as installing the 1Password apps and browser extension for Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome.
What is 1Password?
1Password makes it easier for you to manage and access passwords and company information, wherever and whenever you work. It lets you save credentials, documents, secure information, and more into one secure vault that is easily accessible with a single click.
1Password can:
- Generate and suggest new, unique passwords for you
- Automatically save passwords, PiNs, and login details for each website/application
- Autofill logins, credit cards, addresses, and identities into forms
- Securely share items like passwords, credit cards, or documents with colleagues through shared vaults
- Always monitor your data online to notify you of any security risks
- Protect you and your family online with a free 1Password Families account
We are rolling out 1Password to the entire company as the default enterprise password management solution. This will be replacing all other solutions which may include any browser password managers or any personal standalone managers.
Setting up your 1Password account:
You are automatically provisioned with a 1Password account via an automated email that will look like the one below…

Clicking on the Join Now link will take you to the page below. Please note that you will need to log in via SSO (Single Sign On) with your Pomona Farming or Mahi Pono Microsoft credentials.

After logging in, your invite is accepted and there is an automated approval processes that generally takes 5-10 minutes but can take longer in rare cases.

Once your account is approved, you will receive the email below. You can click on the Sign- in address link in the email to activate your account. After activating, you can then proceed to install the 1Password application and browser extensions.

Installing the 1Password application for Windows and MacOS
Windows (via Company Portal application)
- Open the Start menu and search for "Company Portal"
- Open the Intune Company Portal application
- Sign in with your Microsoft credentials if prompted
- Navigate to the "Apps" section
- Find "1Password" in the list of available applications
Note: Most of you will choose to install the Intel version. If you are not sure, please contact Cobaltix for assistance.
- Click on "1Password" and then click "Install"

- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation
- Once installed, you can find 1Password in the Start menu
macOS (via Company Portal application)
- Open the Launchpad and search for "Company Portal"
- Open the Company Portal application
- Sign in with your Microsoft credentials if prompted
- Navigate to the "Apps" tab
- Find "1Password" in the list of available applications
- Click on "1Password" and then click "Install"
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation
- Once installed, you can find 1Password in your Applications folder
First-Time Setup
After installing 1Password, you'll need to set it up with your company account:
- Open 1Password (either the desktop app or browser extension)
- You'll be prompted to sign in or create a new account
- Select "Sign in to an existing account"
- Enter your company email address
- Follow the instructions to complete the sign-in process using the company-provided account information
- Once setup is complete, your passwords and secure information will be synced across all your devices
NOTE: You may be prompted to enter a transfer key when you set up your second option.
Installing the browser extensions:
Browser extensions allow you to autofill passwords and other credentials directly in your web browser.
Google Chrome
- Open Google Chrome
- Navigate to the Chrome Web Store: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/1password-–-password-mana/aeblfdkhhhdcdjpifhhbdiojplfjncoa
- Click "Add to Chrome"
- Confirm by clicking "Add extension" in the popup
- After installation, you'll see the 1Password icon in your browser toolbar
Microsoft Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge
- Navigate to the Edge Add-ons page: https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/1password-–-password-ma/dppgmdbiimibapkepcpoppolkejolejj
- Click "Get"
- Confirm by clicking "Add extension" in the popup
- After installation, you'll see the 1Password icon in your browser toolbar

Import your browser’s password manager passwords into 1Password: The other step in this transition is to import your browser’s passwords into 1Password. The steps for that are here Move your data from other applications to 1Password | 1Password Support
Installing the iOS and Android apps (RECOMMENDED):
You can also install the mobile apps so that you have your passwords anywhere you need them. And once you’re set up on the computer, you can set up the mobile apps via QR code for easy sign in.
iOS
- Open the App Store on your iOS device
- Search for "1Password"
- Tap "Get" or the download icon (cloud with arrow) next to "1Password - Password Manager"
- Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password
- Wait for the app to download and install
- Once installed, you can find the 1Password app on your home screen or in the App Library
Android
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android device
- Search for "1Password"
- Tap "Install" next to "1Password – Password Manager"
- Wait for the app to download and install
- Once installed, you can find the 1Password app in your app drawer or on your home screen
QR Code Sign-In
You can use the QR code method to easily sign in to 1Password on a new device:

On your already set-up device (e.g., computer):
- Open 1Password
- Go to Settings/Preferences
- Select "Add Account" or "Help a device get set up"
- Choose "Scan Setup QR Code"
- A QR code will be displayed on the screen

On your new device (e.g., mobile phone):
- Open the 1Password app
- Tap "Scan Setup Code" during the setup process
- Point your camera at the QR code displayed on your other device
- The app will automatically connect to your account
- Follow the prompts to complete the setup
This method is faster and more secure than manually entering your account details.
